Germany increases its support for Palestine refugees threefold this year: 1) It provides an additional 23m EUR for the emergency food assistance in the Gaza strip. As part of UNRWA’s efforts to ensure food provision for vulnerable Palestine refugees, this funding will cushion the blow of rising food prices (partly caused by the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine).

2) On top of that, an additional 9.9m EUR will prop up UNRWA’s core budget in 2022. This allows the organization to continue providing its basic services and highlights our role as a crucial donor of Humanitarian Assistance in the Palestinian Territories (e.g. as UNRWA’s second largest bilateral donor).

3) Lastly, Germany will channel another 8m EUR to the Cash Assistances programme for Palestine refugees in Syria.

These additional funds underscore our unwavering support for Palestine refugees in the Palestinian territories as well as the region. Nonetheless, we expect all stakeholders to meet their obligations towards Palestine refugees.

In 2021 Germany has provided a total of 150m EUR (177m USD) to UNRWA for the support of Palestine refugees. For 2022, Germany aims at maintaining its funding level.
