20.04.2022 - Pressemitteilung

Under the auspices of H.E. the Prime Minister, Dr. Mohammad Shtayyeh, and Mr. Oliver Owcza, the German Representative, a Financing Agreement was signed today by Farid Ghannam, Deputy Minister of Finance, H.E. Zafer Milhem, Minister of Palestinian Energy and Natural Resources Authority, H.E Mazen Ghunaim, Head of Palestinian Water Authority, and Mr. David Kunze, Director of KfW German Development Bank Office in Ramallah. Under this agreement, Germany will provide 16 million Euro that will be used by PENRA in close coordination with the Palestinian Water Authority (PWA) and the Gaza Electricity Distribution Company (GEDCO) to construct two solar photovoltaic plants in Gaza with a total capacity of up to 18 MW. The program shall improve the general electricity supply for the population in Gaza and particularly provide reliable power supply for the Northern short-term low-volume seawater desalination plant. With this, it will enhance the water supply for around 250,000 people in Northern Gaza.

This project is a logical and meaningful evolvement of our cooperation„, said Mr. Oliver Owcza, German Representative. “It will provide clean energy to Gaza and thereby improve living conditions and access to safe drinking water. At the same time, it will protect the environment and reduce greenhouse gas emissions and support our Palestinian partners on the way to achieving their international climate targets.“
