Ramallah, July 20th – Mr. Thomas Bruns, the German Police Advisor to the Representative Office of the Federal Republic of Germany, handed over a new batch of protective equipment to the Palestinian Civil Police.
The German Government has been supporting the Palestinian Civil Police for more than a decade. The partnership included training by German police experts, equipment, construction of police stations, community police initiatives and an exchange programme between German and Palestinian police officers. Germany continued to be a partner in the COVID-19 crisis response. Funds were reallocated from an ongoing support programme to launch a Corona emergency response initiative for the Palestinian Civil Police.
This way Germany has been providing Palestinian police officers with masks, gloves and other protective gear to support the Palestinian Civil Police and keep police officers and the general public safe in the ongoing fight against Covid-19. The first batch of equipment was provided by Germany in March and included disposable surgical masks, gloves, hand sanitizers, protective overalls, non-contact thermometers and sanitizing pumps. Today, the latest batch of protective equipment was handed over to the Chief of Police, Major General Hazem Attalla who emphasizes that „Germany has been a strong supporter and a true friend of Palestinian Civil Police. During this pandemic they were fast and effective in their support.“
All equipment was provided by the German Development Cooperation funded by the German Foreign Office and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and procured locally in the Palestinian Territories.
