PRESS RELEASE

Germany pledges 53 Mio. EUR for new development programs

in the Palestinian Territories

Germany will support new development projects and programs in the Palestinian Territories with 53 Mio. EUR (ca. 217 Mio. NIS). This was officially announced by the German Representative in Ramallah, H.E. Peter Beerwerth, during a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Dr. Riad Al Malki on Monday, December 4 in Ramallah.

„This additional funding will further improve and stabilize the Palestinian’s living conditions in the West Bank and Gaza“, the German Representative stated. He added: „Germany is a reliable Partner for the Palestinians since more than 30 years under often challenging and uncertain conditions. The people in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip can rely on our support in the future.“

The new funding will focus on programs for fostering employment and supporting technical and vocational training and education. „We want to further support that as many young Palestinians as possible receive training and education opportunities and find jobs“, the German Representative stated.

In the framework of today’s pledge Germany will also provide 16 Mio. EUR for infrastructure projects in Palestinian communities. These projects will be implemented within the framework of the „Municipal Lending Program“ of the Municipal Development and Lending Fund (MDLF), which is funded by several international donors.
